About Lisa Dempster
Lisa Dempster grew up in a place called Charlottetown, Labrador. Before becoming a politician, she helped people find jobs as an employment counsellor. She also worked for her town as a municipal Councillor, which is like being on a local town council. She even served as the town's deputy mayor. Lisa is also a member of the NunatuKavut community, which is an Indigenous group in Labrador.
Her Roles in Government
After being re-elected in 2015, Lisa became the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly. This is an important role where she helps lead meetings and keep order in the provincial government.
Later, in 2017, she became a Minister. A Minister is like a leader of a specific government department. Lisa was the Minister of Children, Seniors, and Social Development. This means she was in charge of programs and services for kids, older people, and families needing support.
She was re-elected again in 2019 and 2021. On August 19, 2020, Lisa took on more important roles. She was appointed Minister Responsible for the Status of Women. This role focuses on making sure women have equal opportunities. She also became the Minister of Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation, working with Indigenous communities.
