About Lisa Thompson
Lisa Thompson was born and grew up in Hornchurch, a town in London, England. When she was 16, she finished school and worked in insurance for a couple of years.
In 1991, Lisa started working at the BBC, which is a big broadcasting company. She became a radio broadcast assistant, helping to put radio shows together. She left the BBC in 2002 and later worked for other companies, still helping with radio shows.
Lisa was 43 years old when her very first book was published. It shows that it's never too late to follow your dreams!
Her Amazing Books
Lisa Thompson's first novel, The Goldfish Boy, came out in 2017. It quickly became a national bestseller! Many people loved the book, and it was even nominated for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize, which is a big award for children's books. Critics said the book was a great mix of a story with a message and one that many people would enjoy.
The next year, in 2018, Lisa published The Light Jar. The Guardian newspaper called it a "thoughtful and hugely empathetic book," meaning it was full of understanding and kindness. After that, she wrote The Day I Was Erased in 2019 and The Boy Who Fooled the World in 2020.
Lisa also writes shorter books called novellas. Her first novella, Owen and the Soldier (2019), was special because it was published by Barrington Stoke. This company makes books that are easy for children with dyslexia to read. Owen and the Soldier was the first dyslexia-friendly book to be nominated for the Blue Peter Book Awards! In the same year, Lisa wrote a short story for a collection called Return to Wonderland, which was inspired by the famous stories of Lewis Carroll.
More of her books followed, including her second novella, The House of Clouds (2020). In 2021, she released The Graveyard Riddle, which brought back some characters from her first book, The Goldfish Boy. She also published her third novella, The Small Things, that year.
In 2022, The Rollercoaster Boy came out, and in 2023, The Treasure Hunters was released. Lisa also started writing stories for even younger children with illustrations by Jess Rose. These include Sidney Makes a Wish (2022) and Carrie and the Roller Boots (2023), both published by Barrington Stoke.
