Lisa Winter is an amazing American engineer and robot builder. She's also a television personality! She is super famous for her work on the TV show BattleBots, where she built and fought many cool robots. Today, she helps decide who wins as a judge on the show.

Lisa Winter's Early Life

Lisa Winter grew up in Wisconsin. From a very young age, she was super interested in robots. In 1996, when she was just 10 years old, she started building robots with her dad. They built them for exciting robot fighting competitions! She went to Miramonte High School and later studied at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). She earned a special degree called a Bachelor of Arts.

Robot Competition Adventures

Lisa Winter was part of a team called "Robot Action League." They loved building and competing with robots!

Competing in Robot Wars

Lisa first entered a robot competition in 1996. She was only 10 years old! This competition was called Robot Wars and it happened in San Francisco. Her robot was named "Dough Boy." It had a strong aluminum base and cool spinning blades that went around very fast. Lisa became the Robot Wars middleweight world champion! That's a huge achievement for someone so young.

Battling in BattleBots

Lisa Winter has been a part of every single season of BattleBots. She competed in the first seven seasons, showing off her amazing robot-building skills. Since season eight, she has been a judge, helping to pick the winners. Some of the awesome robots she built for BattleBots include: Tentoumushi, Mr. Squeeky, Plan X, and Mega Tento.

In the year 2000, Lisa and another robot competitor, Christian Carlberg, appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. They showed off their robots and even had a small robot fight on the show!

Lisa Winter's Career Journey

After finishing college at UCSC, Lisa worked part-time at her dad's robotics company. Later, she got a job at a company that designs industrial products. In 2011, she helped start her own company called Robot11. This company made smart toys! In 2013, she designed a special wearable device for a company called Kwame Corp. As of 2020, Lisa is an Engineering Project Manager at Mattel, a famous toy company.

Lisa Winter's Personal Life

Lisa Winter cares a lot about helping others. She is on the board of directors for an organization called Women In Robotics. This group helps and supports women who work with robots. She also spends her time volunteering to make "hat tags" for The Marine Mammal Center in Marin, California. This center helps marine animals. Lisa is also a vegan, which means she doesn't eat animal products.
