This article is about African American newspapers that have been published in Virginia. These newspapers were, and still are, very important for sharing news and ideas within the African American community. They helped people stay informed and work together, especially during tough times.

The very first African American newspaper in Virginia was The True Southerner, which started in 1865. Over the next 40 years, more than 50 such newspapers began. They helped African Americans deal with many challenges during and after the Reconstruction Era (the period after the American Civil War). Some of these newspapers, like the Richmond Planet, Virginia Lancet, and Virginia Star, became very important in Virginia's politics.

Today, some well-known African American newspapers in Virginia include the New Journal and Guide, Roanoke Tribune, and Richmond Free Press.
