The Arizona Rangers were a special group of lawmen in the American Old West. They worked in the Arizona Territory from 1901 to 1909. Meet the Arizona Rangers

The Arizona Rangers were like a special police force for the Arizona Territory. They were formed to help control crime, especially cattle rustling and other lawlessness, in the early 1900s. These Rangers were known for being tough and dedicated. They rode horses across vast lands to bring justice to the frontier.

Leading the Way: Captains

The Captains were the top leaders of the Arizona Rangers. They were in charge of the entire group and made important decisions about how to keep the territory safe.

  • Burton C. Mossman (served 1901): He was 34 years old when he joined. He came from Aurora, Illinois, and used to be a cattleman.
  • Thomas H. Rynning (served 1902): He was 36 when he became a Ranger. He was born in Christiana, Norway, and had been a soldier before.
  • Harry C. Wheeler (served 1903): He was 28 years old and from Jacksonville, Florida. Like Rynning, he had also been a soldier.

Next in Command: Lieutenants

Lieutenants were the officers who helped the Captains manage the Rangers. They led smaller groups of Rangers and helped carry out orders.
