Main Characters
Doraemon
Doraemon is the main robot cat from the future. He's blue and looks a bit like a cat, but some people mistake him for a raccoon dog, which makes him very upset!
Doraemon was sent back in time by Sewashi, who is Nobita's great-great-grandson. Sewashi wanted Doraemon to help Nobita because Nobita had a lot of struggles in his life. Doraemon has a special "4-dimensional pocket" on his tummy. From this pocket, he can pull out all sorts of amazing futuristic tools and gadgets from a future department store!
Sometimes, when there's an emergency, Doraemon gets a bit panicky. He might try to find the perfect gadget but accidentally pulls out a bunch of random household items instead! Even so, Doraemon is super friendly and smart. He lives with Nobita's family and acts like a second son, even though he's a robot. He needs to eat and sleeps in Nobita's closet.
Nobita Nobi
Nobita Nobi is the other main character in the series. He wears glasses, a polo shirt (usually red or yellow), and shorts. He's often with Doraemon, who acts like his helper and friend.
Shizuka Minamoto
Shizuka Minamoto is a smart, kind, and pretty girl. She's often seen wearing pink. Shizuka is Nobita's best friend, and Nobita really likes her. She doesn't mind that Nobita sometimes struggles with school or is a bit lazy. In fact, she often tries to cheer him on and help him do better.
Shizuka loves taking baths, sometimes several times a day! There's a funny running joke in the series where Nobita (or sometimes Doraemon, Gian, or Suneo) accidentally interrupts her, often by misusing one of Doraemon's gadgets like the "Anywhere Door." Shizuka also loves sweet potatoes, but she tries to keep that a secret! She enjoys playing the violin, but her playing isn't very good, just like Gian's singing. She also takes piano lessons, even though she prefers the violin.
Shizuka loves animals and has a dog and a canary. In the future, thanks to Nobita's efforts and Doraemon's help, Shizuka marries Nobita! She's also good friends with Dekisugi, a popular and smart classmate, which sometimes makes Nobita a little jealous.
Takeshi "Giant" Goda
Takeshi Goda, usually called "Giant," is a strong and quick-tempered boy. He's known as the local bully. He often "borrows" other kids' things (especially Nobita's and Suneo's) and doesn't always give them back.
Giant is famous for his terrible singing voice, but he thinks he's a fantastic singer! He sometimes "invites" his friends to his concerts, and they have to go or risk getting a beating. His singing is so bad that it can even be used as a weapon in some movies! He also thinks he's a great cook, but his food can be a nightmare for others.
Despite his tough exterior, Giant has a good heart. He's always ready to help his friends when they're in real trouble, especially in the movies. He cares a lot about his friends and his younger sister, Jaiko. His famous catchphrase is: "What's mine is mine. What's yours is also mine."
Suneo Honekawa
Suneo Honekawa is a rich kid who loves to show off his expensive toys, video games, and pets to everyone, especially Nobita. He often hangs out with Giant and enjoys teasing Nobita. He sometimes makes fun of Nobita, which often gets Nobita into trouble. Suneo also tends to leave Nobita out when he invites Giant and Shizuka to his parties.
However, Suneo is still one of Nobita's closest friends and often asks for help from Nobita and Doraemon. In the movies, Suneo is usually the one who is most scared and wants to go home, unless his friends convince him to stay. He's very smart, good at art and design, and quite clever. Suneo is also a bit self-centered and loves looking at himself in the mirror. He's the shortest kid in his class, which he's sensitive about.
Dorami
Dorami is Doraemon's younger sister. She's yellow and has a big red bow instead of ears. She and Doraemon are considered siblings because they were made with half of the same oil. Dorami lives in the 22nd century with Sewashi, Nobita's great-great-grandson.
She sometimes visits Nobita using a time machine when Doraemon is busy or needs a checkup. Dorami loves melonpan (a sweet bread) and is afraid of cockroaches. She's a more advanced robot than Doraemon and was the smartest student in her robot school. She's also better at using her gadgets. In one story, Nobita wanted Dorami to replace Doraemon, but he soon realized that Dorami doesn't understand him as well as Doraemon does.
Mini-Doras
The Mini-Doras are small versions of Doraemon that come in different colors like red, green, and yellow. They are actually one of Doraemon's gadgets! He's a talented painter but didn't become an artist. Nobisuke is very fond of Nobita and doesn't scold him as much as Tamako because Nobita's struggles remind him of his own childhood. He met Tamako when he accidentally bumped into her after turning down an art offer, and their friendship grew into love.
Nobirou Nobi
Nobirou Nobi is Nobisuke's younger brother and Nobita's uncle. He works overseas and visits during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Sewashi is smarter than Nobita but also doesn't like studying very much. He is also the owner of Doraemon's sister, Dorami.
Nobisuke Nobi Jr.
Nobisuke Nobi Jr. is the son of Nobita and Shizuka, named after Nobita's father. She punishes Giant whenever he bullies other children because she doesn't want him to hurt anyone. Her strictness comes from her love for Giant, and Giant, despite complaining sometimes, cares deeply for his mother.
Sasuke Goda
Sasuke Goda is Giant's father. He mostly works outside to help with his wife's store. He is known as the strongest man in their town. He is somewhat like Giant and sometimes shows off his strength.
