Pretty Rhythm: Aurora Dream is an exciting anime TV show about young girls who dream of becoming top performers called Prism Stars. They compete in amazing "Prism Shows" that combine ice skating, singing, and fashion. The story mainly follows Aira Harune, a girl who discovers her hidden talent for these shows.
The series first aired in Japan on TV Tokyo from April 9, 2011, to March 31, 2012. It was supposed to start a week earlier but was delayed because of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. Later, an English version of the show was broadcast in Asia. Besides the main episodes, there were also short, two-minute mini-episodes released on DVDs. This show was followed by a sequel called Pretty Rhythm: Dear My Future.
Each episode also included a special live-action part called "Pretty Rhythm Studio." This segment was hosted by Akina Minami, known as Akkina. It followed three young trainees from Avex Dance Master—Mia Kusakabe, Reina Kubo, and Karin Takahashi—as they trained in dance, singing, and fashion. Their goal was to become idols, just like the characters in the anime. Towards the end of the series, these three girls, along with Ayami Sema, formed a real-life idol group called Prizmmy.
The show had different theme songs. The first opening song was "You May Dream" by Lisp, and later "Catch My Heart 1000%" by Pretty Rhythm All Stars. The ending songs included "Happy Go Lucky (Happy Lucky de Go)" by Super Girls, "We Will Win (Kokoro no Baton de Po Pon no Pon)" by Tokyo Girls' Style, "Pretty Rhythm de Go" by MARs (the main group in the show), and "Everybody's Gonna Be Happy" by Prizmmy.
