Thirty Seconds to Mars is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band started in 1998. Its current members are Jared Leto (lead singer and guitar), Shannon Leto (drums), and Tomo Miličević (lead guitar and keyboards).
Their first album, 30 Seconds to Mars (2002), had limited success. However, their second album, A Beautiful Lie (2005), made them famous. The song "The Kill" and its music video helped a lot. This video was nominated for two awards at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. A Beautiful Lie also had two songs, "The Kill" and "From Yesterday", that won Kerrang! Awards.
After that came This Is War (2009). This album had two songs, "Kings and Queens" and "This Is War", that reached number one on the Alternative Songs charts. "Kings and Queens" won "Best Rock Video" at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. Another song, "Hurricane", won the band's third Kerrang! Award for Best Single.
Thirty Seconds to Mars has won many awards. They received six Kerrang! Awards, including "Best International Band" three times (2008, 2010, 2011). They also won nine MTV Europe Music Awards, like "Best Rock" (2007, 2008, 2010) and "Best Alternative" (2011, 2013, 2014, 2017). The band was nominated six times for the Billboard Music Awards and won "Modern Rock Artist of the Year". They even set a Guinness World Records for playing over 300 live shows during one album's tour!
