List of districts in Assam facts for kids
Assam is a state located in the northeastern part of India. This state is divided into 33 smaller areas. These areas are called districts. Think of them like different regions or counties within the state.
How Districts Are Managed
Each district in Assam has a main officer in charge. This officer is called the Deputy Commissioner (DC). The DC has two main jobs. First, they make sure that law and order are kept in the district. This means keeping people safe. Second, they are in charge of collecting money for the government. This money comes from taxes.
Most of the time, an officer from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) becomes the DC. Sometimes, an officer from the Assam Civil Service (ACS) also gets this important job. Many other officials help the DC manage the district.
The districts of Assam are grouped into five bigger areas. These are called regional divisions. Each division has a Commissioner who oversees it. Also, a police officer called the Superintendent of Police (SP) helps keep law and order. This officer is from the Indian Police Service. In Guwahati City, the police are led by a Commissioner of Police. This system started on January 1, 2015.
