Anchorage, Alaska, is a big city in the United States. Like many cities, it has a leader called a mayor. The mayor helps run the city and makes important decisions.
Anchorage officially became a city on November 23, 1920. Later, in January 1964, a larger area around the city, called the Greater Anchorage Area Borough, was created. These two parts joined together on September 15, 1975. This new, combined government is known as the Municipality of Anchorage.
Today, the mayor of Anchorage is chosen in an election where candidates do not run as part of a political party. They serve for three years. A mayor can only be elected for two terms in office.
