Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. Like many countries, it has a leader called the Prime Minister. This person is in charge of the government and helps run the country.
Since Mauritius became independent from the United Kingdom in 1968, five people have served as its Prime Minister. Before independence, when Mauritius was a British colony, it had a leader called the Chief Minister. Only one person held that job.
