Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Mozambique is a country in southeastern Africa. It has many rivers that flow across its land. These rivers are super important for the people and animals living there. They provide fresh water for drinking and farming. Rivers also help with travel and trade, and they are home to lots of amazing wildlife.

Most of Mozambique's rivers flow into the Indian Ocean. This list shows you the main rivers and their smaller branches, called tributaries. Think of a big tree trunk (the main river) with many branches (tributaries) coming off it!

Rivers Flowing into the Indian Ocean

Almost all the rivers in Mozambique eventually reach the Indian Ocean. This means their water travels from the land, through many smaller streams and rivers, until it joins the vast ocean. This area where all the water collects and flows to the ocean is called a drainage basin.
