History of Columbia's Tall Buildings

Jesse Hall has been the tallest building in Columbia for a long time, ever since it was finished in 1894. It was built after another important building, Academic Hall, sadly burned down in 1892. Another interesting old building is the 5-story Guitar Building, built in 1910. People sometimes call it the city's "first skyscraper" because it was so tall for its time!
