Littig is a small community in eastern Travis County, Texas, United States. It's an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county. In 2000, about 37 people lived there. Littig is also part of the bigger Greater Austin area.

The Story of Littig

Littig is known for being one of Texas's oldest communities founded by Black people. The town started in 1883 on land given by Jackson Morrow, who was a former slave.

The community was named after A. B. Littig. He was a general agent for the Houston and Texas Central Railway and helped survey the land for the town.

In 1887, a church was built on land donated by J. W. Bitting. A post office opened in 1889, with Thomas B. Fowler as the first postmaster.

By 1900, Littig had grown to 168 people. It had a general store, two cotton gins (machines that separate cotton fibers), and three churches.

However, the community started to shrink in the 1930s. The population dropped from about 150 people in 1936 to just 35 by the 1940s. The Littig post office closed in 1954, and people started getting their mail from Elgin.

Even in the 1980s, maps showed Littig as a small village with a church and a few houses. From the late 1960s to 2000, the population stayed around 37 people.
