The Little Madawaska River is a river in northern Maine, a state in the United States. It is about 42.6 miles (68.6 kilometers) long. This river is an important part of the local natural environment.

Journey of the Little Madawaska River

The Little Madawaska River starts its journey in a part of Maine known as Township 14, Range 5, WELS. This area is located in the northern part of the state.

Where the River Flows

From its starting point, the river flows in a few different directions. It first moves towards the northeast, then changes course and flows towards the southeast.

Meeting Another River

The Little Madawaska River continues its path until it reaches a place called Grimes Mill. Here, it joins with a larger river known as the Aroostook River. This meeting point is about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) downstream from the town of Caribou.

Part of a Bigger System

When the Little Madawaska River flows into the Aroostook River, it becomes part of a much larger river system. The Aroostook River eventually flows into the Saint John River. Finally, the Saint John River empties into the Bay of Fundy, which is a large bay located between the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and the state of Maine.
