The Little Mashel River is a small river in Pierce County, Washington. It flows into the Mashel River. This happens about 380 feet (116 meters) past the town of Eatonville, Washington. The river is famous for its deep canyon and three beautiful waterfalls.
Journey of the Little Mashel River
The Little Mashel River starts in a small lake. This lake doesn't have a name. It is about 7.6 miles (12.2 kilometers) southeast of Eatonville, Washington. When it leaves the lake, the river is very small.
It flows northeast for about 0.3 miles (0.5 kilometers). Then, it turns northwest and flows for about 5.7 miles (9.2 kilometers). Along this path, it meets the South Fork Little Mashel River.
After that, the river briefly turns southwest. It picks up water from Midway Creek, which is its only named branch. Then, it turns northwest again. It flows this way for about 1.2 miles (1.9 kilometers) until it joins the Mashel River.
About 0.6 miles (1 kilometer) before it joins the Mashel River, the Little Mashel River flows through a short canyon. Here, the river drops over three large waterfalls that many people like to visit.
South Fork of the River
The South Fork Little Mashel River begins about 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) west of the lake where the main river starts. It flows northwest for about 4.1 miles (6.6 kilometers).
Finally, it joins the main Little Mashel River. This meeting point is not far upstream from where Midway Creek also flows into the Little Mashel.
