The Little Opawa River is a small but important river. It flows through the southern part of the Canterbury area in New Zealand's South Island. This river is a natural waterway that helps shape the local environment.

Exploring the Little Opawa River

The Little Opawa River is about 18 kilometers (11 miles) long. It starts its journey from a ridge located about 20 kilometers (12 miles) southwest of a town called Fairlie. From there, the river generally flows towards the east.

Where Does the River Flow?

As the Little Opawa River travels, it eventually meets up with another river. This river is its southern neighbor, the Ōpaoa River. They join together very close to each other. After they meet, both rivers then flow into the Tengawai River. This meeting point is near a small settlement called Albury.

The Little Opawa River is a great example of how different waterways connect. It shows how smaller rivers contribute to larger river systems in New Zealand.
