The Little River is a small stream, about 7.2-mile-long (11.6 km), located mostly in the town of Exeter in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. It is a branch, or tributary, of the Exeter River. The Exeter River is part of the larger Great Bay and Piscataqua River watershed. This area is known as the New Hampshire Seacoast region.
It's important not to mix up this Little River with another stream also called the Little River. That other river is in Brentwood and Kingston. It's also a tributary of the Exeter River, but it's less than 3 miles (5 km) to the west.
Journey of the Little River
The Little River starts its journey in the northeastern part of Brentwood. From there, it quickly flows east. Soon after, it enters the town limits of Exeter.
Flowing Through Exeter
As the river continues, it flows southeast. It passes through areas with many wetlands, which are like marshy lands. It also flows past gentle, low hills. A notable spot along its path is Colcord Pond. The river goes through this pond just west of downtown Exeter.
Where the River Ends
Finally, the Little River flows into the Exeter River. This meeting point is at the southern edge of the campus of Phillips Exeter Academy. This is where its journey ends, joining a larger river system.
