The Little Theatre of Alexandria is a fun community theatre located at 600 Wolfe Street in Alexandria, Virginia. A community theatre is a place where local people, who love acting and plays, put on shows for everyone to enjoy. It was started by Mary Lindsey in 1934. Back then, it was called the Peacock Players.

Since it began, this theatre has put on more than 350 different plays! In recent years, they usually produce seven to ten shows every season. The Little Theatre is also famous for its special competition where people write short plays.

Who Visited the Little Theatre?

On June 28, 2001, a very important guest came to the Little Theatre. This was President George W. Bush, who was the leader of the United States at the time. He came with his wife, Laura Bush, who was the First Lady.

What Play Did They See?

It was their first cultural event together after he became president. They watched a play called Proposals, written by Neil Simon. A relative of President Bush and Laura also acted in the show!

Helping New Playwrights

The Little Theatre of Alexandria has helped many new writers become famous. These writers are called playwrights because they write plays. Some of the playwrights who got their start here include Sandra Fenichel Asher, Rich Orloff, and Jacob M. Appel.

The Theatre Building and Community

The theatre has a large group of supporters. Over 2,000 people are members or subscribers. This means they regularly attend shows or support the theatre. The Little Theatre of Alexandria even owns its own building. This building was first opened as a theatre in 1961. It has been a home for amazing performances ever since.
