Littoral is a special area in Benin, a country in West Africa. It is one of the twelve "departments" of Benin. Think of a department like a state or a large county.
This department is quite unique. It has only one commune or city, which is Cotonou. Cotonou is the biggest city in Benin. It is also the country's economic capital. This means it is a very important place for business and trade.
Littoral is the smallest department in Benin. It was created in 1999. Before that, it was part of the Atlantique Department.
