Lloyd Cowan was a British track and field athlete. He was born on 8 July 1962. Lloyd was very good at hurdle races. He specialized in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles. Later, he became famous as a coach for many top athletes. Lloyd Cowan passed away on 11 January 2021, at the age of 58.
Lloyd Cowan's Athletics Journey
Lloyd Cowan was chosen for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Sadly, he could not compete. He became ill and had to miss the games.
He later represented England in 1994. This was at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada. He competed in the 110-meter hurdles event. Lloyd won his final medal in 1999. This was at the AAA national championships.
Becoming a Top Coach
Lloyd retired from competing in athletics when he was 39 years old. After that, he started a new career as a coach. He coached many talented athletes. In total, he helped 18 different athletes.
Some of the famous athletes he coached include:
- Christine Ohuruogu: She was an Olympic, World, and Commonwealth Champion in the 400 meters.
- Simeon Williamson: He was a British champion in the 100 meters.
- Andy Turner: He won titles in the 110 meters hurdles at the European and Commonwealth Games.
In 2015, Lloyd Cowan received a special award. He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). This award recognized his great contributions to sports.
