Lluís Millet facts for kids
Lluís Millet i Pagès (born April 18, 1867, in El Masnou; died December 7, 1941, in Barcelona) was a famous Catalan composer and musician. He is best known for helping to start the Orfeó Català choir in 1891.
Millet was a student of the well-known composer Felip Pedrell. Later, in 1896, he began teaching choral music at the Municipal School of Music in Barcelona. He eventually became the director of this important music school.
Lluís Millet passed away in 1941. He was buried in the Montjuïc Cemetery in Barcelona.
Becoming a Musician
Lluís Millet's family moved to Barcelona to stay safe during the Third Carlist War. His family hoped he would become a merchant, but Lluís loved music. He decided to study at the Conservatory of the Liceu in Barcelona.
At the conservatory, he learned from great teachers like Miquel Font, Josep Rodoreda, and Carles G. Vidiella. These teachers helped him become the talented musician he was.
Early Musical Adventures
Lluís Millet was drawn to choir music from a young age. When he was just 17, he became the conductor of a choir called "La Lira de Sant Cugat del Vallès." This was a big step for a young musician!
He also worked at the Cafè Inglés in Barcelona. He started as a pianist, playing music for the customers. Later, he became part of a musical trio. In this group, he played with Josep Badia, who was a violinist, and Lluís Pamies, who played the harmonium.
