Lake Size and Location
Llyn Aled is quite large. It covers an area of about 112.7 hectares (278.5 acres). That's bigger than 200 football fields! The lake sits very high up. Its surface is about 1,227 feet (374 meters) above sea level. You can easily reach the lake by following the A543 road.
How the Lake Changed
Even though Llyn Aled is a natural lake, its size was made bigger. A special wall, called a dam, was built at the northern end of the lake. This dam helps to hold back more water. It made the lake larger than it was naturally.
What Lives in the Lake?
Llyn Aled is home to different kinds of fish. One of the fish you might find there is the Northern pike. Pike are known for being large, fast, and good hunters. They are an important part of the lake's ecosystem.
Past Activities on the Lake
For a while, Llyn Aled was a popular place for sailing. The Llyn Aled Sailing Club used the lake for their activities. However, the club eventually closed down. This happened because fewer people joined the club over time. Also, there was a much larger lake nearby called Llyn Brenig. Many people preferred to sail there instead.
The Clwydian Way Trail
A famous walking path called the Clwydian Way passes right by Llyn Aled. This trail runs along the north side of the lake. It offers amazing views of the water and the surrounding moorland. Hikers can enjoy the peaceful scenery as they walk.
Water Flow and Rivers
Llyn Aled plays an important role in the local water system. The lake feeds another nearby body of water called the Llyn Aled Isaf reservoir. This reservoir stores water for different uses. Llyn Aled is also the starting point, or source, of the River Aled. This river flows northward from the lake.
