Loch Skae is a small, freshwater loch (a Scottish word for lake) located in the uplands of Scotland. You can find it north of Blackcraig Hill. It's about 18 miles (29 km) west of Dumfries and just 0.5 mi (0.80 km) east of another loch called Loch Howie.
About Loch Skae
Loch Skae is a natural body of water that gets its water from rain and streams. It is known for its peaceful, natural surroundings. The loch is a great example of the many beautiful freshwater lochs found across Scotland.
Size and Shape of Loch Skae
Loch Skae has a somewhat round shape. It measures about 0.25 mi (0.40 km) across from north to south. The loch is not very deep on average, about 9.5 ft (2.9 m). However, at its deepest point, it reaches 35 ft (11 m).
Exploring Loch Skae's Depths
Scientists have studied Loch Skae to learn more about its underwater features. On July 29, 1903, a researcher named James Murray explored the loch. This survey was part of a bigger project led by Sir John Murray. His team was mapping the depths of many freshwater lochs in Scotland between 1897 and 1909. This work helped us understand more about these important natural places.
