Loch Voil is a beautiful freshwater loch, which is a Scottish word for a lake. It is located in the Stirling area of Scotland, near the village of Balquhidder. This loch is known for being quite narrow and not very long.

About Loch Voil

Loch Voil is a freshwater loch, meaning its water is not salty like the ocean. It's a peaceful spot in the Scottish countryside. The loch stretches for about 5.6 kilometers (3.5 miles) and is only about 0.4 kilometers (0.25 miles) wide.

How Deep is Loch Voil?

The deepest part of Loch Voil goes down to about 30 meters (98 feet). That's like stacking ten double-decker buses on top of each other! Even though it's not the biggest loch in Scotland, it's still quite deep in places.

Connecting Waters

Loch Voil is very close to another loch called Loch Doine. They are separated by a small area of land that was formed by a stream called the Monachyle Burn. Water flows out of Loch Voil at its eastern end, forming the River Balvag. This river then flows towards Balquhidder.

Getting There

You can reach Loch Voil by taking a small, single-track road. This road starts from the village of Balquhidder and leads all the way to a place called Inverlochlarig. It's a great way to see the natural beauty of the area.
