Locksley is a small place, or locality, in the central tablelands area of New South Wales, Australia. It used to be known as Dirty Swamp. Locksley is located right on the Main Western railway line. A railway station opened there in 1872, but it is now closed.
A Look Back in Time: Locksley's History
The railway station at Dirty Swamp opened for passengers on April 22, 1872. It was about 30 kilometers (19 miles) past a town called Rydal. At that time, Dirty Swamp was the very end of the railway line. However, people expected the tracks to be extended to Kelso within a few months. The railway line from Rydal to Dirty Swamp was built by companies named Messrs. Blunt and Williams.
The name of the post office in Dirty Swamp was officially changed to Locksley Post Office on February 15, 1880.
