The Log Cabin Motel, also known as Camp O' The Pines, is a special place in Pinedale, Wyoming. It was built in 1929 to welcome the many tourists who were starting to travel by car. Many of these travelers were heading to Yellowstone National Park.
A Cozy Stop for Travelers
The Log Cabin Motel was created by Walter Scott. He also owned the Pinedale Cash Store in town. Even though his store was called "Cash," Mr. Scott let people buy things and pay later. Some people even helped build the cabins at Camp O' The Pines to pay off what they owed him! This was a unique way to get the motel built.
Unlike many other places for car travelers, Camp O' The Pines was open all year long. This meant that local people often rented the cabins by the month. It wasn't just for tourists passing through. It became a useful place for the community, not just a vacation spot.
How the Camp Was Designed
Originally, there were seven cabins at the motel. They were set up in a half-circle shape. In the middle of this half-circle were a main house and a separate building with bathrooms.
Over time, the motel was updated. In the 1930s and 1940s, bathrooms were added inside the cabins. Later, the main house and the separate bathroom building were also changed into cabins. In 2007, another cabin was added that matched the others.
