Logone Oriental is one of the 23 regions in the country of Chad. It is located in the southwestern part of Chad. The main city and capital of this region is Doba. This region used to be known as the Logone Oriental Prefecture.

Geography

The Logone Oriental region shares its borders with several other areas. To the north, it borders the Logone Occidental Region and Tandjilé Region. To the east, you'll find the Mandoul Region. South of Logone Oriental is the Central African Republic, and to the west, it borders Cameroon.

Cities and Towns

Doba is the capital city of Logone Oriental. Other important cities and towns in the region include Baïbokoum, Baké, Béboni, Béboto, Békan, Béssao, Béti, Bodo, Dobiti, Donia, Goré, Komé, Laramanaye, Madana, Mbaïkoro, Mbikou, Mbitoye, Miandoum, and Yamodo.

People and Languages

According to a census taken in 2009, the Logone Oriental region had a population of 779,339 people. Back in 1993, the population was 440,342.

Many different groups of people live in this region, and they speak various languages. Some of the main groups are the Doba peoples, who speak languages like Bedjond, Mango, and Gor. Other groups include the Karang, Kuo, Nzakambay, Pana, and different Sara groups. The Sara people speak languages or dialects such as Kabba, Laka, and Ngambay.

Economy and Jobs

The people in Logone Oriental mainly make a living through farming, especially growing food for themselves (this is called subsistence agriculture). Cotton is also an important crop grown here. In addition, the region is known for its oil production.

The Logone Oriental region is divided into six smaller areas called departments. Each department has its own capital city and is further split into sub-prefectures.
