Discovering Lohmer

Lohmer is a small community in the southwestern part of Missouri. It's not a big city, but a quiet area where people live. Being an "unincorporated community" means it doesn't have its own mayor or city council. The county government helps manage things for the people living there.

The community is easy to find if you are driving on Missouri Route 76. It sits among the natural beauty of the Mark Twain National Forest. This forest is a great place for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring nature.

A Look at Its History

Lohmer has an interesting past. For a while, it was also known by a different name: Lohmansburg. This was a common way for places to have slightly different names over time.

A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, was opened in Lohmansburg in 1891. This was a very important service for the people living there. It helped them stay connected with others and get important news. The post office stayed open for about 15 years, closing in 1906.

The community was named after an early settler named Henry Lohmar. Settlers were some of the first people to move to and build homes in a new area. Naming a place after an important person like Henry Lohmar was a way to honor them and remember their role in starting the community.
