History of Lolita
The area where Lolita is located was first settled in the 1840s. A person named Isaac N. Mitchell started a large farm there.
The community of Lolita officially began in 1909. It was named after Lolita Reese. She was the granddaughter of a brave soldier from the Texas Revolution.
A year later, in 1910, Lolita got its own post office. This made it easier for people to send and receive mail. Also, the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway built a special track switch there. This helped trains move between different lines.
After World War II, Lolita started to grow. By 1969, the community had several local businesses.
