The London Fire Brigade Museum tells the amazing story of firefighting in London. It shows how firefighters have protected the city since 1666. That was the year of the terrible Great Fire of London. The museum has many old fire engines and cool equipment. It's a great place to learn about brave firefighters!
History of the Museum
The museum used to be in a building called Winchester House. This was once the home of Captain Sir Eyre Massey Shaw. He was a very important leader of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade. Winchester House was the main office for the London Fire Brigade until 1937. That year, King George VI opened a new main building. This new building was on the Albert Embankment near the River Thames.
The museum at Winchester House closed its doors in September 2015. All the items were carefully checked and put into storage. This was done while they planned for a brand new museum.
Where to See the Collection Now
A new museum is being planned. It might open around 2023. But don't worry, you can still see parts of the amazing collection! The museum offers special temporary shows across London. They also do visits to schools and give educational talks. There are often events to celebrate important dates, like the 150th anniversary of the London Fire Brigade.
