The long-tailed triller (Lalage leucopyga) is a type of bird that belongs to the Campephagidae family. These birds are found in places like New Caledonia, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. Sadly, one kind of long-tailed triller, called the Norfolk triller, used to live on Norfolk Island but is now extinct. This means it no longer exists anywhere in the world.
Long-tailed trillers like to live in warm, wet forests. You can find them in forests that are low to the ground or in mountain forests in tropical and subtropical areas.

About the Long-tailed Triller
The long-tailed triller is a small to medium-sized bird. It gets its name from its long tail and the trilling sounds it makes. These birds are often seen moving through the trees, looking for food.
Where They Live
Long-tailed trillers live on several islands in the Pacific Ocean. They prefer places with lots of trees and moisture.
Different Kinds of Long-tailed Trillers
Just like people can have different looks depending on where they are from, birds can have different types called subspecies. These subspecies are slightly different versions of the same bird.
Here are some of the known subspecies of the long-tailed triller:
- †Lalage leucopyga leucopyga: This subspecies lived on Norfolk Island but is now extinct.
- Lalage leucopyga montrosieri: This type lives in New Caledonia.
- Lalage leucopyga affinis: You can find this one in the Solomon Islands, specifically on Makira and Ugi.
- Lalage leucopyga deficiens: This subspecies lives in Vanuatu, on Torres Island and the Banks Group.
- Lalage leucopyga albiloris: This type is found in central and northern Vanuatu.
- Lalage leucopyga simillima: This subspecies lives in southern Vanuatu and the Loyalty Islands.
