Long Canyon (Navajo County, Arizona) facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Long Canyon is a deep valley located in Navajo County, Arizona. It's a natural landform carved by water over a very long time.

The very beginning, or "head," of Long Canyon is found at coordinates 36°50′04″N 110°28′08″W. This spot marks where the canyon starts to form.

Where Does Long Canyon Lead?

Long Canyon plays an important role in the local water system. The water from Long Canyon flows into another creek called Laguña Creek. Laguña Creek actually starts where the water from Long Canyon meets the water from another canyon, Dowozhiebito Canyon.

This meeting point is at an elevation of 6,322 feet (about 1,927 meters). From this point, the combined waters then flow into the beginning of Tsegi Canyon. So, Long Canyon is like a feeder for these other important waterways in Arizona.
