Long Island is a beautiful island in the country of the Bahamas. It is famous for being one of the most scenic islands there. The main town on Long Island is Clarence Town. About 3,000 people live on the island.
This long, thin island stretches about 130 kilometers (80 miles). At its widest point, it is only about 6 kilometers (4 miles) across. Long Island is located about 265 kilometers (165 miles) southeast of Nassau, the capital city of the Bahamas.

Island Landscape
The island has two very different coastlines. The eastern side faces the Atlantic Ocean. This side has dramatic cliffs and rocky shores. The western side is calmer, with many soft, sandy beaches. This side faces the Great Bahama Bank, which is a shallow area of ocean.

The island also has interesting eolianite formations. These are rocks made from ancient sand dunes that have turned into stone over thousands of years. You can see these unique rocks along the coast.
