History of Longvale

Longvale has a simple but interesting history. It was once an important stop for travelers.

The Post Office and Early Days

A post office served the Longvale community for many years. It opened in 1911 and closed in 1958. This post office was inside a store. The store was on the original path of US 101. It was also across from a place called Camp Piercy. A bridge nearby led to another community, Andersonia.

A Stop for Travelers

In its early days, Longvale was mostly known as an "auto camp." This means it was a place where people traveling by car could stop and rest. Tourists often drove through the "Redwood Empire" on US 101. Longvale offered them a convenient place to stay.
