In 2020, about 2,367 people lived in Lopezville. It is part of a larger group of cities called the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Lopezville started in the early 1960s as a place for trailer homes. It was named after Francisco Solano López, who used to be the president of Paraguay. One of his family members founded the trailer park and named it after him.
