History of Lords Valley
Lords Valley got its start in 1810 when a man named Levi Lord became its first resident. He bought land after Dr. Philip P. Monington advertised property for sale. Levi Lord and eleven of his friends bought the land together. These friends were Joseph Brooks, Robert Hatton, Samuel Hunt, Wilson Croft, William Whittaker, John Whittaker, Thomas Harselden, Robert Ogden, Abram Johnson, James Powers, and William Manly. They all came from England on the same ship in 1809.
Around 1850, Levi Lord and his sons built a brick hotel. This building was also used as a post office from 1953 to 1955. Today, the building is owned by the Glen Eyre Corp. and is listed on the National Historical Register, which means it's an important historical place.
Hemlock Farms Community
Hemlock Farms Community Association (HFCA) is a large, private community that covers about 4,500 acres (18 km2). It has a population of 3,271 people, based on the 2010 census, making it the biggest community within Lords Valley.
Lords Valley Country Club
The Lords Valley Country Club (LVCC) is a private club for its members. It has an 18-hole golf course, 10 tennis courts, a swimming pool, and places to eat. Even though it's inside Hemlock Farms, it's a separate club and was around even before Hemlock Farms.
The club started in 1945 as the Pocono Skyline Golf Club. Later, in 1954, it faced some money problems and was renamed Mountain Resorts. In 1963, when Western Heritage bought Hemlock Farms, they also made a deal with Mountain Resorts. At that time, Mountain Resorts changed its name to Lords Valley Country Club. In 1972, the club bought the land where it is located.
The golf course at the Lords Valley Country Club was designed by Norman H. Woods. It's a "par 72" course, which means a good golfer should be able to finish it in 72 strokes.
Lords Valley Cemetery
The old home of Levi Lord, called "The Lord House," is also where the Lords Valley Cemetery is located. You can find it on Route 739. To be buried in this cemetery, a person must have lived in Lords Valley their whole life.
The Lord House itself was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 because of its historical importance.
