Loredana Bertè (born September 20, 1950) is a famous Italian singer, songwriter, and actress. She is known for her powerful rock voice and for wearing unique and eccentric outfits on stage.
Throughout her long career, she has sung many different styles of music, including rock, pop, and even reggae. She has worked with many famous Italian songwriters. Her older sister, Mia Martini, was also a very popular singer in Italy.

Early Life and Family

Loredana Bertè was born in a small town called Bagnara Calabra in Southern Italy. She was the third of four daughters. Her parents were both school teachers.
When Loredana was a child, her family lived in different cities in Italy. After her parents separated, she moved to Rome with her mother and sisters. There, she studied at an art school.
Career Beginnings in the 1970s
Loredana started her career in the entertainment world in the early 1970s. She worked as a dancer on TV shows and in a famous club in Rome called the Piper Club. There, she became friends with another future star, Renato Zero.
In 1969, she acted in the Italian version of the famous musical Hair. She also worked as a backup singer for other artists alongside her sister, Mia Martini. While her sister's singing career took off, Loredana focused on theater.
In 1974, she recorded her first album, Streaking. A year later, she had her first big hit song in Italy called "Sei Bellissima." In 1978, she released the song "E la luna bussò," which was one of the first reggae songs to become popular in Italy.
Fame in the 1980s and 1990s
In the early 1980s, Bertè moved to New York City for a year to work on a new album. She met the famous artist Andy Warhol, who helped her create a music video for her song "Movie."
In 1982, she won a major Italian music competition called Festivalbar with her song "Non sono una signora." This song became one of her most famous hits. In 1986, she performed at the famous Sanremo Music Festival.
In 1993, Loredana recorded a song called "Stiamo come stiamo" with her sister, Mia Martini. Sadly, her sister passed away in 1995. This was a very difficult and sad time for Loredana.
A New Century of Music
In the 2000s, Loredana returned to the stage, performing in a show called "Gerusalemme" in Rome. In 2004, she appeared on "Music Farm," one of the first reality TV shows in Italy for famous singers. With the money she earned, she produced her own album, Babybertè, in 2005.
She returned to the Sanremo Music Festival in 2012 and placed fourth with the song "Respirare." She later toured in Russia and performed at an international music festival.
In recent years, Loredana has been a judge on popular TV talent shows like "Amici di Maria De Filippi" and "The Voice Senior." In 2017, her song "J'adore Venise" was used in the soundtrack for the Oscar-winning movie Call Me By Your Name.
Recent Success
In 2018, Loredana had a huge hit with the song "Non ti dico no," a collaboration with the band Boomdabash.
She competed in the Sanremo Music Festival 2024 with her song "Pazza" (which means "Crazy"). She finished in seventh place and won the Critics' Prize, an important award named in memory of her sister, Mia Martini. A short time later, she competed to represent the country of San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the same song, where she came in second place.
Personal Life
From 1988 to 1992, Loredana Bertè was married to the world-famous Swedish tennis player Björn Borg.
