Loredana Bertè was born in Bagnara Calabra, a town in Southern Italy. She was the third of four daughters. Her parents were both school teachers. Loredana spent her childhood in different Italian towns like Porto Recanati and Ancona. When her parents separated, she moved to Rome with her mother. There, she studied at the local Art Institute.

Starting Her Music Career

In the early 1970s, Loredana started appearing on TV and radio shows. She joined a dance group at the Piper Club in Rome, where she met other artists like Renato Zero. In 1969, Loredana and Renato starred in the Italian version of the musical "Hair".

In 1970, Loredana and her sister, Domenica (who later changed her name to Mia Martini), sang backup for another artist. While Mia Martini quickly became a successful singer, Loredana continued to work in theatre. She performed in musicals like "Ciao Rudy" in 1972.

In 1974, Loredana was convinced to record her first album, Streaking. Her second album, Normale o Super, included her first big hit song, "Sei Bellissima". In 1978, she released "E la luna bussò", which was one of the first mainstream reggae songs in Italy.

Big Success and New York

In the early 1980s, Loredana spent a year in New York City. There, she met the famous artist Andy Warhol. Warhol and Bertè even worked together on the music video for her song "Movie".

In 1982, she won the Festivalbar, a popular Italian music competition, with her song "Non sono una signora". This song became one of her most famous hits. She continued to release successful albums, like Carioca in 1985, which she recorded with the artist Djavan.

Loredana has often participated in the Sanremo Music Festival, a very important Italian music contest. She first took part in 1986 with the song "Re".

Later Career and Recent Hits

In 2012, she returned to the Sanremo Music Festival and finished fourth with the song "Respirare". She also toured in Russia.

Loredana has also been a judge on popular talent shows like "Friends of Maria De Filippi" and "The Voice Senior".
