Lorenzo Geyres is situated in a rural area. It is about 3 kilometers (nearly 2 miles) northwest of Route 3. This is an important road in Uruguay. The village is also about 30 kilometers (about 18.6 miles) north-northeast of Paysandú. Paysandú is the main city and capital of the department.
The Story of Lorenzo Geyres
This village has an interesting history, including a name change! It started as a small group of houses. These homes were close to a train station called Queguay. On July 6, 1853, a law officially recognized this group of houses as a village. It was given the name "Queguay" at that time.
Many years later, on May 29, 1928, another law was passed. This law changed the village's name to "Lorenzo Geyres." It also officially made it a "Pueblo," which means a village or town in Spanish.
