Lorenzo Jules Staelens (born on April 30, 1964) is a Belgian football manager and former player. He was most recently a coach for the Dutch club HSV Hoek.
Lorenzo started his playing career as a defensive midfielder. Later in his career, he played as a sweeper. He scored over 100 goals during his time as a player.
Staelens played for the Belgium national team in three World Cups. He also played in the Euro 2000 tournament, which was held in his home country.

Lorenzo Staelens' Club Career
Lorenzo Staelens was born in Lauwe, Belgium. He began his professional football journey with K.V. Kortrijk when he was 23 years old. He played two strong seasons there. His excellent performance caught the eye of top division team Club Brugge KV.
Playing for Club Brugge
At Club Brugge, Lorenzo formed a famous midfield team with Franky Van der Elst. This partnership lasted for almost ten years. Staelens played a total of 369 games for the club. He scored 105 goals during his time there.
Moving to Anderlecht
When he was 34, Lorenzo moved to R.S.C. Anderlecht. By this time, he often played in defense. He was still a very important player for the team. He helped Anderlecht win two championships in a row, in 2000 and 2001. In 1999, he won the Belgian Golden Shoe award, which is a big honor for a player.
He did not finish his last year at Anderlecht. In early 2001, he moved to Japan to play for Ōita Trinita. He retired from playing football shortly after that.
Starting a Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Staelens started coaching. His first coaching job was with R.E. Mouscron. He then spent two months at V.C. Eendracht Aalst.
Later, he returned to his first club, Kortrijk, as their general manager. In 2007, he went back to coaching as an assistant coach for K.S.V. Roeselare. He continued as an assistant coach for several years. He also worked with Cercle KSV, another team from Bruges.
Lorenzo Staelens' International Career
Lorenzo Staelens was chosen to play for the Belgium squad in the 1990 FIFA World Cup. He was a new international player at the time. He played in one game during that tournament, a 2–1 loss against Spain.
After that, Staelens became a key player for the national team. He also represented Belgium in the 1994 and 1998 World Cups. He played in the UEFA Euro 2000 tournament as well. In total, he played 70 matches for Belgium, scoring 8 goals.
