Lorna Muriel Russell, born on October 4, 1933, is a talented Canadian artist. She is famous for her unique paintings of the prairie landscapes in her home province of Saskatchewan. Lorna uses different art materials like watercolor, gouache, and oil paint to create her beautiful artworks.

Lorna Russell: Painting the Prairies

Lorna Russell was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She studied at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1956, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Later, in 1968, she received a teaching certificate. This helped her share her love for art with others.

Showing Her Amazing Art

Lorna Russell has shown her art in many places. She has had both solo shows and group exhibitions with other artists. In 1981, she had a special show called a retrospective at the Shoestring Gallery. This show looked back at her art over many years.

In 1983, her drawings from 1980 to 1983 were shown at the Mendel Art Gallery. Her artworks are now part of important collections. These include the Canada Council Art Bank in Ottawa and the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina. Her art can also be found at the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon.

Sharing Her Art Skills

Lorna Russell also spent time teaching art. From 1968 to 1970, she taught art education in public schools in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She worked with elementary and high school students.

She also helped as an art consultant for teacher groups. In 1971, Lorna helped start the Shoestring Gallery. This gallery is now known as A.K.A. gallery. She also worked at the Mendel Art Gallery as an education officer. Even after she stopped teaching full-time, Lorna stayed involved in the art world. In 2002, she led a watercolor class at the University of Saskatchewan. She still lives in Saskatoon.
