The Loudville Church is a special old church building. It's located on Louds Island in Maine. This island is now mostly a place where people have summer homes. The church welcomes everyone, no matter their religion.
It was built in 1913. What's interesting is that parts of it came from an old schoolhouse. That school was built in 1908 on Malaga Island. In 1995, the church was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important historical site.

Where is Louds Island?
Louds Island is off the coast of Bristol, Maine. It's near a village called Round Pond. People first settled on the island in the 1750s. By 1798, about 150 people lived there.
Over time, most people moved away. By the mid-1800s, it became a summer spot. Before 1913, there was no church on the island.
What Does the Church Look Like?
The Loudville Church is made of wood. It has an L-shape. The building is about one and a half stories tall. It has a roof that slopes down on two sides, called a cross-gabled roof. The outside is covered with shingles. Its foundation is made of concrete.
A three-story tower stands in the corner of the L-shape. The tower has a pointy roof that flares out at the bottom. The church has some simple Gothic style details. For example, one side has a window with three arched parts.
The Church's Unique History
The story of the Loudville Church starts on Malaga Island. This island is in Casco Bay, Maine. In the 1800s, Malaga Island was home to a poor community. Most of these people were African-American. They lived mainly by farming and fishing.
The Schoolhouse on Malaga Island
In 1908, some wealthy people wanted to help the children on Malaga Island. They built a school there. They hoped it would make life better for the kids. However, in 1911, the Malaga Island community was forced to leave. This event is now seen as a sad example of "cultural imperialism." This means a powerful group forced their way of life on another.
Moving the School to Louds Island
The people who built the school gave it to the Maine Seacoast Missionary Society. This group raised money to move the school. They brought its wood and other materials to Louds Island. This lumber was then used to build the Loudville Church.
Milton Stratton designed the church. He was an architect from Maine. He worked a lot in the Mount Desert Island area. Today, the Louds Island Association takes care of the building. They hold meetings and summer church services there.
