Louis-Edmond Hamelin (born March 21, 1923 – died February 11, 2020) was an important Canadian geographer, a teacher, and a writer. He was born in a place called Saint-Didace, Quebec, in Canada. He is most famous for his amazing studies about Canada's North.
Hamelin helped create the Centre for Northern Studies at Université Laval in Quebec. He also led the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières as its principal from 1978 to 1983. He was also a member of the Northwest Territories Legislative Council.

A Pioneer in Northern Studies
Louis-Edmond Hamelin spent much of his life studying the unique areas of Northern Canada. He was very interested in the land, the climate, and the people who live there. He also studied the Indigenous peoples of Canada.
He helped create the Centre for Northern Studies at Université Laval in Quebec. This center is a special place where people can learn and research about the North. He also led another university, the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, as its principal (called a rector) from 1978 to 1983.
Helping Make Decisions
Mr. Hamelin was also part of the Northwest Territories Legislative Council. This group helps make important decisions and rules for the people living in the Northwest Territories.
