Louis Meyers (born in 1955 or 1956 – died March 11, 2016) was an American who helped create and organize big events. He is best known as a co-founder of the famous South by Southwest (SXSW) festival. Louis Meyers was born in Austin, Texas, which is where the festival takes place.
Meyers was very important to the early days of SXSW. He was the main person in charge of choosing which music artists would perform at the festival. He continued in this role until 1994, when he sold his part of the event. Besides organizing festivals, Louis Meyers was also a talented musician who could play many different instruments. He also worked as a music producer, helping artists record their songs.
From 2005 to 2013, Louis Meyers was the executive director of an organization called Folk Alliance International. This group helps folk music artists and promotes folk music around the world.
Louis Meyers passed away on March 11, 2016, at the age of 60. He had been admitted to a hospital in Austin the day before. He later died at his home from what was thought to be a heart attack.
