Louis d'Armagnac, Duke of Nemours (born in 1472 in Normandy, France; died on April 28, 1503, in Cerignola, Italy) was an important French nobleman. He was also a politician and a military leader. Louis served as the Viceroy of Naples during a war called the Third Italian War (1502-1504). For most of his life, people knew him as the Count of Guise. He became the Duke of Nemours in 1500 after his brother Jean passed away.

Who Was Louis d'Armagnac?
Louis d'Armagnac was born into a noble family in France. He was the third son of Jacques d'Armagnac, Duke of Nemours and Louise of Anjou. His family was very powerful and important in French history.
Becoming a Count and Duke
In 1491, Louis was given the title of Count of Guise. This title had belonged to his uncle, Charles IV, Duke of Anjou, before him. Later, in the year 1500, his older brother Jean died. Because of this, Louis inherited the title of Duke of Nemours. This made him a very important person in France.
Louis as Viceroy of Naples
In 1501, Louis d'Armagnac was given a big job. He was made the viceroy of Naples. A viceroy is like a governor who rules a country or province as the king's representative. This happened during the Third Italian War, which lasted from 1502 to 1504.
His Final Battle
Louis led French forces in Italy. Sadly, he was killed in battle on April 28, 1503. This happened during the battle of Cerignola, a major fight in the Italian Wars.
