About Louisa Harland
Early Life and Training
Louisa Harland grew up in Dundrum, a part of South Dublin. She has two older sisters, Katie and Ellie. When she was younger, she was part of the Ann Kavanagh Youth Theatre. This is a place where young people learn about acting. Later, she went to the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London to study acting.
Her Acting Journey
After finishing her studies, Louisa started her acting career. In 2011, she got a role in the TV series Love/Hate. She also appeared in a few movies. These included Standby in 2014 and Lost in London in 2017.
Becoming Orla McCool
In 2017, Louisa was chosen for a big role. She became Orla McCool in the popular TV show Derry Girls. Orla is a funny and unique character. She is the cousin of Erin Quinn, another main character. The show became very popular. The first season aired in 2018. The second season followed in 2019. The final season and a special episode came out in 2022.
Other Exciting Roles
In 2020, Louisa and her Derry Girls co-stars did a special sketch. They performed with Saoirse Ronan for a charity event. This event helped people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. That same year, Louisa was in the movie Boys from County Hell.
More recently, Louisa took on a lead role. She plays Nell Jackson in the 2024 Disney+ series Renegade Nell. This show is about a brave character named Nell.
Acting for Radio
Louisa has also acted in radio plays. In 2021, she performed in an adaptation of a play called Endless Second for BBC Radio 4. She also performed in an adaptation of a book called Snowflake for the same radio station.
