Louise Borgia (born May 17, 1500 – died 1553) was a French noblewoman. She was the only child of Cesare Borgia, who was a powerful duke. Louise was almost seven years old when her father died.
She also held the title of Dame de Chalus. This important title was passed down to her from her mother, Charlotte of Albret.
Early Life
Louise was born in France on May 17, 1500. She was the only daughter of Cesare Borgia and his wife, Charlotte of Albret. Her family was very well-known. Her grandfather was Pope Alexander VI, a very important leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
Louise had many half-brothers and half-sisters. These were children her father had from other relationships.
Family and Titles
Louise's father, Cesare Borgia, died in battle on March 12, 1507. He was fighting for her uncle, King John III of Navarre. Louise was still a young child when this happened.
Her mother, Charlotte, took care of her until Charlotte died on March 11, 1514. Louise was almost 14 years old then. After her mother's death, Louise inherited the title of Dame de Chalus. This made her an important lady in her own right.
Marriages and Children
Louise married her first husband, Louis II de la Trémoille, on April 7, 1517. He was a governor in France. Sadly, Louis died in battle on February 24, 1525. Louise was only 24 years old when she became a widow.
She married her second husband, Philippe de Bourbon, on February 3, 1530. He was known as the Seigneur de Bourbon-Busset. They lived at the Château de Busset. Louise made many changes to their home, adding new parts like a covered walkway and a special gallery.
Louise and Philippe had six children together.
Later Years
Louise Borgia died in 1553. The exact date of her death is not known.
