Music Career
Starting Veruca Salt
Louise Post and Nina Gordon met in Chicago and decided to start a band. They called it Veruca Salt. Along with bassist Steve Lack and drummer Jim Shapiro, they began writing songs and performing. Post and Gordon were the main singers and guitarists.
The band recorded a demo tape and sent it to record labels. After playing just a few shows, they were signed to Minty Fresh Records. They started recording with producer Brad Wood, who was known for his work with the singer Liz Phair.
Rise to Fame
Veruca Salt's first big song was "Seether". Their first album, American Thighs, came out in 1994. It was later re-released by a major label, Geffen Records. The album was a success, reaching number 69 on the Billboard chart and earning a Gold certification.
To support the album, Veruca Salt toured with famous bands like Hole, Live, and PJ Harvey. In 1996, they released a short album called an EP, Blow It Out Your ... It's Veruca Salt, which was produced by Steve Albini.
The band's second album, Eight Arms to Hold You, was released in 1997. It featured the hit song "Volcano Girls". This song became famous as the opening theme for the movie Jawbreaker. The band even performed another single, "Shutterbug," on the TV show Saturday Night Live.
Changes and New Music
In 1998, Nina Gordon left the band. Post decided to continue Veruca Salt with new members. They released the album Resolver in 2000. The new version of the band toured to promote the album.
In the following years, Veruca Salt released more music. This included an EP called Officially Dead in 2003 and another EP, Lords of Sounds and Lesser Things, in 2005. A full album, IV, came out in 2006. After 2007, the band took a break.
The Band Gets Back Together
In 2013, Veruca Salt announced on Facebook that the original members were reuniting. They started working on new songs. In 2014, they released two new songs, "It's Holy" and "The Museum of Broken Relationships," on a special vinyl record.
The band toured again in the United States and Australia. In 2015, they released a brand new album called Ghost Notes, which received great reviews from critics.
Personal Life
Post and her bandmate Nina Gordon were very close friends when Veruca Salt started. However, they had disagreements in the late 1990s, which led to Gordon leaving the band. For many years, fans wondered what happened. In 2003, Post shared that they had become friends again. When the band reunited in 2013, Post called Gordon "my best friend."
In the late 1990s, Post was in a relationship with Dave Grohl, the leader of the Foo Fighters and former drummer for Nirvana. Grohl has said that the famous Foo Fighters song "Everlong" is about Post. She even sang backup vocals on the track over the phone. They are now on friendly terms.
Post married Tony Parks, the frontman for the band The Brontosaur, on March 30, 2008. They have one child, who was born in 2010.
