Loukas Panourgias (born in 1899, died in 1981) was a famous Greek athlete and football player. He was also a successful lawyer and a very important president for the Panathinaikos sports club.

A Young Sports Star
When Loukas was just 12 years old, he moved to Athens. A year later, he started his own unofficial football team called Niki. Soon after, he joined Panathinaikos. At that time, the club was known as Panellinios Podosfairikos Omilos (PPO).
Loukas was also a talented track and field athlete. However, he decided to focus on football.
Olympic Dreams and Challenges
Loukas was chosen to be part of the Greek Olympic team. He was going to play in the 1920 Summer Olympics. Sadly, he broke his leg right before the games. This injury meant he could not participate in the Olympics.
But Loukas was strong and determined. He worked hard to recover from his injury. He then returned to play for Panathinaikos for the next five years.
Building a Home for Panathinaikos
Loukas Panourgias played a huge role in getting the Panathinaikos Stadium. This stadium is located at Alexandras Avenue in Athens. He worked with other athletes and friends of the team.
Together, they helped turn an area called Perivola into a football field. In 1922, the city of Athens officially gave this field to the Panathinaikos team. This became their new home stadium.
A Leader Beyond the Field
After Loukas stopped playing football, he became a very successful lawyer. He also continued to be involved in sports.
From 1962 to 1966, he served as the president of Panathinaikos A.C.. This was a very successful time for the club. They won many championships in different sports. Loukas also led the Hellenic Football Federation, which manages football in Greece.
Loukas Panourgias passed away on January 17, 1981, when he was 81 years old.
